La Revue, Picasso Dans l'Atelier, Numéro Spécial 2015
This special issue of the La Revue reveals rare and previously unpublished photographs of Picasso in his studio with his work in progress. Comprised of seven chapters, each one is devoted to a particular technique examined through images of the artist in his studios alongside texts by noted historians such as Brigitte Léal, Ann Hindry, Marilyn McCully, Elizabeth Cowling, Vérane Tasseau, and Cécile Godefroy.
The issue is illustrated with images by leading 20th-century photographers including Yves Manciet, Edward Quinn, David Douglas Duncan, Lee Miller, Lucien Clergue, and Nick de Morgoli, as well as images from the Archives of Olga Ruiz-Picasso.
Each chapter is followed by an interview with contemporary artists such as Miquel Barceló, George Condo, Sheila Hicks, William Kentridge, Jeff Koons, Robert Longo, and Tatiana Trouvé, who have been invited to comment on the link between the technique in Picasso’s work and their own, as well as on their relationship to the artist. Interviews are accompanied by beautiful color illustrations highlighting a selection of works by these contemporary artists.
The Revue also highlights Picasso’s relationship with Cahiers d’Art founder Christian Zervos through the reproduction of key historical articles on Picasso published during the artist’s lifetime.
